SOCIETY OF ST. ANDREW-GLEANING TENNESSEE'S FIELDS-BRINGING FOOD TO TENNESSEE'S HUNGRY

If you find your self saying, "It is a shame this produce has to go to waste" remember it doesn't. Linda Tozer with Society of St. Andrew will work with local volunteers to glean your fields or pick up any surplus or grade out produce you may have and take it to local agencies feeding Tennessee's hungry.  Give her a call at 615-878-9233.

What do you do with produce that never makes it to market – the veggies that are too big, too small, slightly bruised, cracked, or oddly shaped?

Society of St. Andrew annually saves millions of pounds of fresh produce that would otherwise go to waste at farms. They give the nutritious food to agencies feeding the hungry.

The Society of St. Andrew’s Tennessee office opened last fall and gleaned farms in Bledsoe, Smith, and Williamson counties. They also moved fresh produce into Tennessee and have saved over 600,000 pounds of food, distributing it throughout Tennessee.

You can be a part of the Society of St Andrew’s gleaning network. When you find yourself with excess produce, contact Linda Tozer – 615-878-9233; gleantn@endhunger.org – she will do the rest of the work.

A benefit to you is that Linda will keep record of your donations. At the end of the calendar year, you will receive a statement of them and can apply value to your donated pounds and use it as deductions on your taxes. Your unmarketable produce will be of value to you and your hungry neighbors.

Don’t let food go to waste at your farm. Help make a difference in Tennessee. It is as easy as a phone call.
